How do youth not living at home get from agency to agency or to their court appointments? Kennedy House has established a Bailiff program designed to support the transportation of youth placed in the care of the justice system.
This program serves youth in the Durham, Hastings, Prince Edward Counties, City of Kawartha Lakes, Haliburton, Northumberland, Peterborough, and Belleville, regions and beyond if the young person needs to be transferred to a facility outside of Kennedy House’s catchment area.
Kennedy House provides:
- Safe, secure transportation;
- Drivers and staff who are fully trained in behaviour management, crisis intervention, First Aid & CPR and safety & security measures;
- Interagency transfers or relocation due to the specific needs of the youth involved, with a full understanding of the protocol of these transfers (open-to-open facility, open-to-secure facility, secure-to-secure facility, secure-to-open facility); and
- Services to local police forces who request transportation of youth to stations for evidence collection.
Supporting the Eastern Region Justice System, we respond in 2 hours or less to a request for transfer. Only bad weather, traffic tie-ups or a heavy volume of transport requests would interfere with our goal of providing a two-hour response time.
